Recasing an XTS3000 Model II

I'm considering recasing an XTS3000 Model II radio. I've not personally done one before (I have done an HT1550, which wasn't bad). The recase comes with flex and speaker.

Any suggestions or hints?

it can be a pain in the butt to put the knobs and stuff in the new case. if you can afford a used case or a new one with electronics i would recommend that. it can be done, its just not fun at all.

The one I'm looking at appears to have all the knobs, speaker, flex and so forth. Might not be so bad afterall?

Yes, the complete housing assembly makes it a snap. The radio comes apart in a nearly identical fasion to your HT1550...basically carefully pry the case from the bottom, be careful with the o-ring gasket, and simply unplug the flex cable from it's connector right above the display of the radio. Reverse the steps for re-assembly.

The o-ring is a pain in the arse, but it is quite simple with complete package. Just plug and play... (remember to take the antenna off, btw)
