I am looking at an MCS2000 that is not currently programmed for trunking. I do have a trunking codeplug for that model though. If I push that one down to the radio, is that all it takes to make the radio do trunking? Also, if I have another radio not programmed for trunking that is a different model, but still the MCS2000, how would I go about creating a trunked codeplug for that radio? Last but not least, in trying to get one of these radios to work out of band, would it cause any harm if I tried to push a codeplug from another model MCS2000 to this radio, assuming I saved the original first?

Yes. The radio will require alignment afterwards.

Depends what you mean by 'different model'. If you mean it's a Model II or Model III, and you only have a codeplug for a Model I, then the easiest thing to do is get a Model II or III codeplug with the features you desire & use the method above.

It won't harm it. If you're thinking of something like putting a 403-470 codeplug into a 450-512 unit, it'll work to a degree. You'll get the "fail 001" error on the screen if the VCO can't lock on whatever frequencies you program into it. And of course, it'll need a full alignment.

In a case such as that, I'd prefer to modify the RSS to allow the frequencies & keep the original codeplug in the radio.
