I have astro spectra set with following details

Firm ware -11.22.01.00
DSP software -N 08.03.02
Flah code 501004-001800-3

In user`s guide at page 62 it says ``RS232 packet data model option (I have that option)allows data communication to take place between the astro radio ,a connected data peripherals(such as terminal), and fixed data net work.``
I have that cable to connect radio to computer or terminal with RS 232
connector.cable no HKN 6121A But I dont know how it can do.If some one is doing this please let me know also how to do ????
I think if we can trasmite data through radio we can interface with GPS,RADAR, to find the location
And even we can transmit some data which can jamming the some terrorist activites such as claymore remotecontrols
If anyone have some idea please let me know.

Motorola's Integrated Voice & Data (IVD) network infrastructure is required to use the RS232 packet data option with the Astro Saber, XTS3000, or Astro Spectra. This is true for both conventional and trunked systems.

Basically, the radios with this option turned on first try and "log on" or register with the network--you may notice the TX LED flash a few times... If the system doesn't respond, the radio will show "REG FAILED", and any further RS232 packet data operation will be inhibited. The radios only know how to send packet data through the system, and not directly radio-to-radio.

Unfortunately, the IVD system is intended for a trunked system or a very large conventional system, and is very expensive.

The XTS/XTL5000 series can support a newer packet data option that will allow radio-to-radio data transmission. I believe they call it "Peer to Peer" packet data, or something.

you gave me good idea. can some one or 515 tell me that it should have some soft ware and have any one try to transmit through radio to radio or just Tx some pulse to space as some massege to who can receive.

Try looking into a TNC (Terminal Mode Controller). Its a simple data model that is used widely by the ham radio community. Try http://www.kantronics.com
