The radio: H04RDC9PW5AN at least this is what the seller told me. The labels are gone!! Transmits in 403-470 range.
I have rss 6.5 something. Radio reads and comes up with codeplug to new for this aplication. Just got the radio and don't have any codeplugs and I'm sure the guy that sold it to me doesn't because he said he couldn't read the radio at all. Soooooo....
I have CPS 4.0 but it doesn't seem to be talking to the RIB. Different computer altogether so that's understandable. I don't know anything about CPS. Not very user friendly. Doesn't even say what radio's it should
program??????????? Clueless!!!!!!!! Pentium 1 running win 98 se.

The computer that has the astro rss 6.5 is an old 486. The rib and setup reads and programs all the other sabers and everything else I have.

I'm pretty lost at this point. All the suggestions anyone has would be appreciated. Except buying new software from motorola for $300. That's probably not going to happen any time soon.

Can you be more specific about the problem with CPS? Do you have the COM port configured correctly in the CPS settings?

How do I setup the com port correctly with CPS? When I tell it to read the radio it always seems to default back to com 1. The options for com ports available when reading seems to be 1, 2 and 4. I have tried all of them.
I am pretty sure the serial port in this computer is com 2. Get the same error on all though.
I plug it into my rss computer (486) it reads first try but code plug to new.

The pentium 1 with win 98 is an old IBM thinkpad. I have had problems with it's serial port before. It's a bit finicky. Works fine for reading phones on that port though? This is probably a pilot error problem.

Where in this CPS 4.0 docs will it tell me which radios are supported?

Which is the latest version of DOS RSS that should read and write this radio?
This "codeplug to new" this is a real problem for people who can't have the latest and greatist. Another moto way to bleed money out of you. DUH

While running CPS, you can go to Help>About and it will list what radios the software will work with and what versions. For example:

Astro Saber & XTS 3000 CPS
Version R04.01.04

If you have this version, you should be OK, as it's fairly recent.

Under Windows, if you go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager, and expand the Ports tree, you should see a list of physical hardware ports. I can't remember if it shows modem COM ports there as well - I don't think so.

Under CPS, if you go to File>Read Device, select whichever COM port you believe is correct, and then hit OK. At that point it should read the radio if it's the right port. I believe that it will reset to COM1 if it fails, but I'm not entirely sure, as its been a while.

If your going to stay with using dos see if you can get version 9.05. That is the last dos version produced. I would HIGHLY suggest obtaining the latest version of CPS as well. It has been out for some time now and finding radios that are programmed with anything less than is getting harder.

Once you start using CPS you will get used to it. It really is much easier to use in my opinion. You just have to use it a few times. I know when I first saw it I was against it, but now use it regularly. Anything programmed wth CPS at or above version 3 will give Codeplug Too New in ANY dos.

DOS RSS may not work for him, regardless of the version if the radio was reprogrammed with CPS 3.x and higher.

I think you are all right. I tried Dos Rss version 9.03 last night.
Same error. Oh well.
