We have a number of VHF W9 ASTRO spectra digital consolette stations using L3208 junction boxes connected to MC3000 desksets in varous locations.

I was reading through the installation manual for the L3208 Digital Junction Box and noticed that there's a DDN6660A 2-wire dialup modem option. Two phone lines are required, one for audio and one for data, one junction box would be at each end and connect to each other.

It makes sense on a leased line that they would just connect up on their own (like ASTRO modems do), but how does this 'dial-up' modem work in this case? Can you connect two junction boxes together via a good ole POTS circuit, how does it dial out, etc?

Just curious more than anything, I'd like to know if anyone has experience with this...

We also have a W9, L3208 and 2 MC3000 remotes.

We have had several occasions where the system will "lock up". A constant tone is heard over the remotes, no TX but RX is OK.
Power reset the W9 will return to normal operation.

As for the dial up option, it looks like you need a DJB with the dial-up modems at each end.

In the MC3000 you program the 2 telephone numbers that are associated with the remote dial-up modems.

Reading the book it looks like you have to go through a configuration process each time you want to dial the remote unit. It is on page 3010 and 3-11 of the MC3000 manual.

Thanks for pointing me to those MC3000 manual pages, that answered my question. I noticed the dialup modem option costs around $790 each - wow that's pricey...

I haven't had any of ours lock up yet, fingers are crossed. I'm gathering that the tone is coming from the Spectra, not the DJB? Does the problem still exist if you disconnect both existing remotes and connect a single MC3000 up to the DJB with a short length of cable (as opposed to the building's wiring)?

If so, try swapping out the Spectra and see if the problem follows the radio or audio interface board...
