Opening a Saber...
...and if I may add to the instruction above...
"...making sure when you pull the chassis out of the case by using the
antenna that you are NOT inadvertently holding down the PTT switch or
any other switch on the side of the radio..."

Heh, did you break the plastic nipple off the PTT button?Tom in D.C. wrote:...and if I may add to the instruction above...

The only damage from holding the PTT button down while removing the case will be stripping off the adhesive on the popple...there is nothing in the case nor on the frame that can damage the PTT button.....you only risk wiping away the adhesive retaining the popple PTT domes....

Saber case removal...
My warning comes straight out of the Motorola book, not from sad
experience, fortunately.

I realize that this is how most of you remove a Saber from its casebut be warned. This method CAN cause the control top to crack by the antenna and cause excessive noise. This is especially true with the UHF model in the range 3 split (468 and above). A better way to remove the radio is to use a flat blade screwdriver and push up at the slot just above the accessory connector. It's just like opening up a regular Saber. Unscrew the two spanner nuts at the bottom just enough so they're loose, and then use the antenna to pull the body of the radio up and out of the case.

DJP126's comment is an example of the prime reason I hang around here,
and that is to learn how to do things better. I won't be pulling on my Saber
antennas in the future when I change cases.
Thanks.
