Can anyone help me identify a board in my low band syntor X. I've worked on many of these over the years but never a low band. Model # T71VXJ7204BK. The model number refers to securnet ties of some sort so that may be my answer. The board is located above the memory module on the personality board and this board must be removed to get the MM out. The board P/N: HLN-4728B.

Any assistance until I find a manual will be appreciated.

Buy the way, anyone have a service manual for sale to trade for the radio?

Regards,
icom98

According to Mike Blenderman's ever-useful site at:

http://www.open.org/~blenderm/syntorx/perbdx.html

The HLN4728B is the interface board for a particular variety of handheld control head. Its presence means that your radio's personality board is not going to be jumpered in the standard fashion.

Unless you plan to use the HHCH, you're going to need to do some surgery to that radio (or swap out the personality board with a standard one) before it's usable.

Happy tweaking.

KC7GR,

Thanks for the response and the website. The overall plan is to upgrade the radio into a Syntor X 9000 since the control heard is better, alphanumerics, and no memory module.

The personality board is the same between standard and HHCH Syntor X radios, however there are numerous jumpers which will have to be reconfigured (see the website references above).

Also, in HHCH operation some of the socketed IC's over on the left side of the personality board will be missing and have to be replaced to use a standard accessory set.

The conversion to a standard accessory group involves removing that extra board, replacing the missing IC's, and reconfiguring about 8-10 jumpers.

Conversion to an X9000 requires a new personality board, not exactly easy to come by, and X9000 drawers are starting to get so cheap that it may not be worth the trouble to do the conversion in the first place.
