NYC Area Meet?

Anyone interested in doing a NYC area meet?
The goal for this one would probably be for Mid-March, and probably take place in Manhattan since it's more central for people in NJ/NYC/Westchester/Long island.
So who would be interested?
Suggestions for a meeting place?

That sounds like a great idea!
Manhattan may be a bit on the steep side. Perhaps we should get a consensus of whether a full meal or just light snacks and drinks are what folks are interested in.

Mid march eh? How about a painting party in the Catskills?
With enough notice, sounds good to me.

There are plenty of places in Manhattan that don't hurt the wallet.
We'd probably find some place that won't be too expensive, kinda central, and easy to get to, probably good 'ol american food - mainly because it'll be hard to get people to come if it's some other random type of food.
I think we can find some place that won't be too bad. There's a number of affordable places around the grand central area - or even union square, columbus circle, etc.
If we stay out of Times Square - all should be good.

Hmmmm... Let me guess- Maybe something like an Outback?
At least we'll be away from all of the trees!

Will be around all those area's next week....can find out more info...

Outback is always a possibility -
however, the hooters here is pretty damn good.
I'm open to just about anything - as long as we keep the options close to what a number of people will enjoy.
I'm usually in the Grand Central area every day... so I know that area pretty well - and know enough to stay out of times square...

you dont go to NY and go to outback/hooters/TGI Fridays
you have to go get some real NYC eatins ( hell white castle Rocks)
get a copy of Zagats and take a looky loo

Well if you want to talk about NYC Eateries... Why don't we go to Broadway Joe's Steakhouse in the Theater district of NY on 46th St between 3rd and 4th Ave I think.
Great prime rib there.

McSorley's and Batlabs- there's a combination! (Although it's all the way down on E 7th)

ahh yess i know werew Mc sorleys is
also there is also Katz or the Carnagy Deli for some pastrami
we need this thread sticky

As a native, I tend to agree that you don't come to Gotham for chain stuff; get the real deal. If we're going the Pastrami route, definitely go to Katz's on the LES (Lower East Side) instead of the more tourist laden Carnagie.
For those with travel concerns, I suggest finding something in the Union Square Area. It will be close to many trains that go to parts beyond the big city and the food will be decent, authentic and not too pricy (at least by NYC standards).

Being that there are travel and lodging restrictions in the way of cost in NY City... why not go to the Metro area around NY City.
For example...
Rockland County has the Palisades Abbomination.. err Mall. In there you have some decent chain type eateries, Outback, Chili's, Dave and Buster's (My personal choice).
Westchester County.... pick a place... cripes... Westchester has HUNDREDS of places to go in Tarrytown, White Plains, Port Chester, Ossining... etc.
Bergen County NJ... 17 from Ramsey to Hackensack... Nuff Said.
All of those areas have easier and cheaper driving/transportation options, easier and cheaper lodging options. Plus once we finish at one place we can adjourn to another place or bar for further fun and mayhem. As a native of the Lower Hudson Valley (I know of at least 2 or 3 others) it may be logistically easier, and financially easier on everyone to at least start out in the areas around the City as opposed to in the heart of the Big Apple. Plus if we get the turnout that Hamsexy had at their DC meet (Alex, Batdude and I were there) and the first NE Meet in Connecticut a couple years ago size is going to play a MAJOR issue. Most non-chain type eateries do not have the space to accomodate larger parties, unless you go to the upscale type resteraunts of Midtown and the Theater districts.

ahh yes. but you dont have to stay in the City the last trains out of GCT are at like 2am and the first at 5:40am and it is a fun time down there ,
and no need to Bring the whacker Mobiles

Lucid and truely moving reasons to me.
I don't see what the facination with New York City is... never have. If that is really where you guys want to go, I'm down with that. Either way, nothing wrong with thinking outside the box once in a while and playing the devil's advocate.

OK- I'll throw this one in to go with some of Jaymz's points:
How about the Palisades Center Mall in Rockland? It's fairly conveniently located for NY, CT, and NJ folks, they have a number of places that could take a fairly large group (the Rain Forest Cafe comes to mind), a bunch of other ways to get into trouble (Dave & Busters), and plenty of parking lot space for vehicular fun (although we might make their security patrol cry).
Just a thought...

I'd like to see if there are others interested in going at first - The only problem with Palasades is that there is really no public transit that allows others who might rely on getting there using public transit.
Now - this also requires more than:
Alex
PJ
Jaymz
Kit
Justin (Humhead)
NickJC
Who I'm sure all have vehicles int he first place - and at that point, it doesn't much matter.
Who else would be in for a NYC area meet?

alex wrote:The only problem with Palasades is that there is really no public transit that allows others who might rely on getting there using public transit.
Wrong....
There are several local trains and buses that arrive and depart regularly from the Palisades mall. Several go to the Hudson Line train station in Tarrytown, there is one that goes to the NJ Transit station in Nanuet... Plus there are taxi's. Just because it's not in the city doesn't mean there is no public transportation.

Count me in, assuming I'm not out of town or on a job.
For what it's worth, if it's decided to meet outside of Manhattan, I'll vote for White Plains

Awe Nick... you kill me. I am waiting for the Hooters to open up on 211... amidst all the controversy over it... I can't wait. But I tend to end up at Outback or TGI Friday's there by the SP Barracks after work on Thursdays.

and I thought that "not in my back yard crap" was limited to Long Island

Ok, since most people are avaliable on the 25th, so be it.
I'll let you guys argue it out to come to a good conclusion on where.
I'm going to be working nights in DC for the next 3-4 weeks, but I've been told that coming back for the meet shouldn't be a huge issue...
Maybe I should start a DC meet thread
