hey i aquired a astro spectra vhf T04KLF9PW4AN read it the windows astro spectra cps software i am trying to find the w4 cntrl head or change to another type but I dont find that option in the rss . Can it be flashed or am I missing something ? I really would like to use another more available head than a w4 which seems near impossible to find . any help ?

Easy enough to move the topic for you.
I don't think you can just change the head type without some - ahhh - trickery, which involves forcing a codeplug from a radio with the desired head type into your radio.
There should be some detail on that here if you serch the messages.
Some of the Astro wizards may also weigh in on this.

Changing the control head type takes some special work. I would say w9 is the most popular head.

If you search Greedbay, a guy there has been blowing out 403-433 split W4 Astro Spectras for around $75. Just get one of those for the control head and toss the rest, or keep it for parts.
