Are you sure the 9th and 10th chars are 8S? It would make sense if they were B5. Sometimes 5 and S look similar, as do 8 and B.

That would turn the model number into D35KGA57B5AK which might be more familiar.

Sorry,i think you are correct. After looking at the picture of the radio ,it looks like the seller copied the wrong numbers.
Thanks

The seller couldn't read the label from the radio properly, and his photo is blurry to boot.

Looks like D35KGA5JB5AK which should be a standard Spectra. At least the control head is a B5, and that matches the 9th and 10th characters of the model number. Other than the 2nd and 3rd characters, most of the other numbers are usually surrounded by letters. Of course, this differs with various radio series, but I think for the Spectra, this is usually true.

Can i ask you a quick question,is there a way to tell what version of MLM is in a radio by the model or serial number ?
I want to buy that one i showed you on ebay and was wondering how to tell the version of MLM.
Thanks

I think you would have to either hook it up to a computer and read it with a program, or open it up and look at the sticker on the MLM. There's nothing evident on the outside.

Max,

On any Spectra, when the radio is first powered up, press the HOME button five times and SERVICE appears in the display. You have only a few seconds after the radio is powerd up, this feature goes away.

OK, then press the MODE button once, then the VER and Serial number will appear in the display.

VER 5.14 then the serial number, 624 HRJ, then the rest of the serial number, 1234. Then the radio displays MODE. Turn the radio off to get out of this section.
