ok then the other thing i found wrong is when you test the radio it gives a serial number of 123ABC...... and the cps won't read it and it tells me the numbers don't match.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

(sorry, couldn't resist)

why is the radio being serviced (this problem or another?)

my first stab here is (assuming your programming setup is GOOD)

is to swap the front housing for one on another radio.

that would pretty much eliminate some kind of hardware failure as being the cause of your problem.

*if* have a good programming platform (i.e. verified on another radio) *AND* you swap the housing and still have no luck reading the radio...

that could be indicative of some kind of internal problem with the radio.

there is a SMALL possibility that your radio is one of the very very few that require what is called the "Alpha" CPS for XTS 5000. this was a developmental release (i.e. never released for sale) version that fits with the time frame of your 123ABC radio.

good luck finding that CPS... since it was never released "officially" - it doesn't "officially" exist.

I'm assuming you are using the correct "ribless" program cable to read the radio? Also, what version of firmware comes up when you put the radio into service mode?

a customer brought it in for programming not service. and yes both the rib cable and factory usb cable do the same thing. i'll try to find another housing, i know we don't have any laying around here.

ok now i'm gettin an error that says the codeplug is an old development codeplug version and is not compatable with this release. anyone have any ideas? oh and i'm using the usb cable and the radio says program mode on the display and the radio shows up as a modem on the computer.

Ok what I'm thinking then, like Doug said above.... that radio might be one of the very early XTS5000's that does require the Alpha CPS. I had one of those Mod 2 XTS5000's a little while back that had the same 123ABC serial, and old 2.20 firmware in it. I was lucky with it though, because I was able to read/write to it with normal CPS. I have a feeling that you’re almost out of options with that thing then if it is one of the dreaded "ALPHA" radios. The only other thing is to see if anyone out there has the capabilities of communicating with an ALPHA 5000, and go from there.

this thing does have the 2.20 firmware. however it has 1 channel programmed into it at 155.820 and someone named it marlboro. the radio does transmit and receive on that too.
