Are you using priority scan ? If so, it does that to sample the priority channel, it's pretty annoying. If this is the case just change settings to non-Priority scan.

As long as you need priority scan, there's nothing you can do. The radio checks the priority channel at a specific interval. If you happen to be listening to something else, you're going to hear the dropout as it goes and checks the priority.
That's how it works. Radiosouth gave you the straight deal. Either kill the priority or put up with it, OR buy a scanner. And if you set the priority on the scanner, guess what you're going to hear when it checks the priority. Right. The dropout.

I'm far from home right now and can't check which radios have which features, but see if the HT1000 RSS offers you a scan feature call "Channel Marking." What this does is to check the priority channel for freq only. If valid, then check for tone, and, if tone invalid, it marks the priority channel for disregard until the co-channel freq activity drops. This greatly reduces the audio hole. Again, without being able to keep the various models in my head, many offer you the ability to adjust the priority sampling interval.
