Spectra deleting trunking system

I am trying to delete out the trunking systems/modes from a UHF Spectra C2 model. It has 24 trunking modes in it, and I am plan on using it as a conventional link radio. I added a conventional mode (mode 25) and it works fine, and I set it to the Home mode, but I cannot figure out how to delete the trunking system out of it. The "Mode Utility" wont let me delete modes 001-024 (forgot what the error was), and it only lets me select "Conventional" mode under that delete mode utility. Can someone help me through this? Or can I email my codeplug to someone and have them delete the trunking system for me? I have searched and searched and I cannot figure out how to delete the trunking system out.

1. The Mode Utility from the Mode screen applies only to conventional channels. There is another Utility under the Trunking Screen (F4 from the main Change screen).

2. You cannot delete a trunking system until you have deleted all trunking personalities that refer to that system, and you cannot delete the last trunking system. However, you can delete all modes that refer to the last trunking system, though it isn't a good idea.

3. If you have the capability, the best bet is usually to redefine the trunking System ID to 0001.

I was able to delete almost all of the trunking information on a 900 MHz Spectra. At least I don't see the trunking mode come up on the display.

You might need a system key file(s) present for the system ID(s) in the radio you have. With the proper file(s), I was able to delete all but one trunking mode/personality/system, turn auto-affiliation off, and blank out the control channel frequencies.

Once I gained full access to the trunking mode menu (add, delete, move, copy, etc), I deleted all trunking modes except the final one. I saved that codeplug to the radio and made sure everything was still working. At some point I also lowered the fields that say how many systems and personalities are allowed to two (2) each, and bumped up the number of conventional channels to 128.

I then created a new personality (a system key file may be required for this step) but did NOT create or fill in any mode information for it. The software complained but let me exit that screen. I then went back and deleted the other (original) personality, and that got rid of the one remaining trunking mode. I wrote the codeplug to the radio, and when it rebooted, I got an ER 01/82. To fix that, I read the codeplug and immediately wrote it back to the radio. Presto! No more trunking mode in the mode list. The radio seems to be quite stable with four conventional channels in it.

I can't take credit for this procedure nor can I recall where I read it. But it worked for me.

As always, save a copy of the radio's codeplug before you make this kind of major change to it.

You can also change the codeplug strings as explained in the model-specific Spectra section of the main batlabs site. That is, if you have the patience to do all of the hex editing that is required.

Codeplug strings that determine feature/function in both the MLM and Command Board memory are not specific to frequency. Take a look at the Moflags thread discussion also. You'll find some useful example strings there that can be used to rid your radio of trunking altogether.

Of course, do it at your own risk, as it is possible to mess up and render the radio a door stop.

Once changed, and with the microprocessor reset, you can read the radio codeplug, correct any mode gibberish left from trunking modes, and you will have a conventional radio, just as the string indicates it should be.

Good luck.
