I have an MTX 8000 I use for work which I cloned to another radio (same ID as issued radio). It worked fine for a while, but now it no longer receives and when I try to transmit the LED doesn't light up and the radio emits a low tone (like when I try to key it up with the tx inhibit switch on). Anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix it? If it matters, the system is Type II.

Sounds like the system saw two of the same ID's and booted you. Does the radio you used to clone it from still work?

Yeah, the original still works. Also, can the system controller see the radio's serial number in addition to the individual ID?

I tried reprogramming and after it "rebooted" it flashed something like FAIL ??/82. It only did this for a very brief moment and returned to the channel display.

Sounds like a codeplug error of some sort. Sometimes if you program a MTX8000 you will get that message along with an error tone and then once the radio boots, everything is fine. In this case, everything doesn't sound fine. I'd try reprogramming the radio again either with the new codeplug or the old one. (this usually happens when you are cloning codeplugs from radios with more features to radios without those features, the radios memory gets remapped completely).

If that doesn't work, email me and I'll see if I can send you a working codeplug.

No serial number is sent. I don't know of anything whatsoever on a Motorola trunked system where a serial number is sent for a piece of equipment. My guess is there is an internal problem with the radio. If one radio works and the cloned one doesn't, and you're sure it's the same radio id, then it's on your end. Being your original works we can rule out the radio id as being disabled at the syscon, and the cloned radio actually works so it wasn't inhibited.
