CTDI (MOT) Elgin Depots Update

Hello People,

Have you noticed a slight change in "turn around repair time" from all the former /\/\ Elgin Depots during Q1 2006?

I've heard there's a small drop in their repair productivity at the Depots. It's gone from 98.6% in December, 2005 to 62.5% in March, 2006 and /\/\ Corporate Management does not understand why?

So /\/\ Corporate Management need to be informed to what has happened to the Service Productivity at their former Depots. Well, as of today, March 24, 2006, 65 of their previous loyal employees have left the Circus /\/\ Ranch for other employment in the electronic industries, still left in the USA. It seems that CTDI can't find qualified personnel using Manpower even at $18/Hour! Most of the former /\/\ skilled technical personnel have left the company for new job positions with other companies.

Oh Yeah, the CTDI decision to move the Subscriber Depot down to Mexico is now 2 months behind schedule and partically no one is left in the Elgin Subscriber Depot to pick up the slack.

All I can do is sit here and watch /\/\ slowly die a painful death after their smartest Corporate Managers with their /\/\BAs and decisions to "Outsource" their own repair Depots fall on hard times. I really feel bad for the customers left holding the /\/\ products out in the field that desperately need the professional repairs.

I wonder if this is why the allegedly 'blank' MLM I got as a replacement for one of my Spectras didn't work...?

Keep the peace(es).

The so called blank MLMs come from stock at the AAPD (parts department), not the service center.

I can't say I have any complaints with the Depot repairing portables & mobiles. A couple weeks ago I had some SP50s sent in they turned around in 2 days, and have 4 P1225s there. I have noticed they take forever to turn pagers around... the last 3 times I've sent in Minitors (3&4s) it took them about a week to turn them around.

One nice thing I am looking forward to about the shift to Mexico is the fact that they will be doing alot more full replacement of internal components instead of testing and replacing the broken stuff. With the salaries what they are down there it will be more productive for them to swap in a new set of guts and move on to the next unit

I'll second that. the CTDI FRU's are GARBAGE. they are WORSE than parts built frankenstein Ebay radios. All the monkeys basically do is put new plastic (and not always new either) on worn, broken, old boards. They never do real RF testing or burn-in. the final QC consists of calling *611 and if it goes through it passes.

If VZW ever offers you a CTDI FRU refuse it. Send your phone to the mfr yourself but RUN don't walk from those POS'es.

Wonder what gems they'll be turning out of their new taco depot soon....

Kenwood...sounds better every day.

Well it took them 4 business days to turn around 4 P1225LS units. I will give them a thorough inspection when they get back here tomorrow (gotta love included next day air shipping in the flat rate) and make sure they are up to snuff. So far so good :)

What is CTDI, AAPD, MLM, and FRU?

CTDI = Communications Test Design Inc. (if memory serves)... the company taking over the Motorola depot and sending the business to Guadalajara.

AAPD = Advanced Aftermarket Products Division? I can't remember for certain.

MLM = Memory Logic Module, the small board in a Spectra with the PROMs and EEPROMs which store firmware and codeplug data.

FRU = Field Replacement Unit, a new or repaired-to-new (theoretically...) unit (of some description) sent to an end user to replace a defective unit.
