MDC1200 and Conventional Receive

I am interested in putting a radio in RX only and listening as well as having it decode the MDC1200 codes. The system is trunked. My question is, if I set this radio up with RX only as a conventional radio, and I put in the receive frequencies for the system, will I still be able to decode the MDC1200 codes with this radio?
Thanks

If the radio is capable of MDS *decode* AND if you happen to be on the right frequency when the user TX his MDC, in theory, YES... It should work.
Why not simply set the radio up for trunking and disable (hardware mod if software isn't available) its ability to TX or affiliate? Seems like it would work much better for you.

I would set it up for trunking but I haven't been able to get the system key cracked just yet.

Trunking systems do not use MDC ID for identification; the subscriber radios send their RadioID with the ISW used for affiliation, channel grant requests and the like.

Not sure I understood the last post...could you or someone else clarify?

Is this a true Type II trunked system or a LTR system?

The ID's you see in a
Motorola trunked system are not MDC based...they are actually part of the trunked control channel data. So no, you will not see any ID's show up in your display if you simply scan the frequencies in conventional mode, regardless if you have MDC set-up or not.
If this is an
LTR system, then yes, it uses MDC signalling for IDs, so you could set-up your radio to decode them on a conventional channel...I see by your comment about the system key that it's not LTR.

Yes, it is a type II system. Oh well, just thought I would give it a shot. Thanks to all who replied.
