We are looking into having a console installed in our disptch center, (currently its several mobile radios) after much research we decided on the Commandstar Lite, however when we contacted a local radio shop they steered us away saying it was a troublesome unit and is being discontinued.

Ouestion is: is this true on either case? Does M have a suitible replacement? Or would anyone recommend another brand and shop as the one here in So Cal is dragging thier feet.

We will be using for sure 4 channels, we wanted the 8 channels with future expansion in mind. MDC signalling and ID display all on UHF. Everything will be installed locally.

Take a look at Zetron.

You have basically two options. The Series 4000 is a full-fledged console, with a central electronics bank and individual operator positions; the capacity is finite, but quite large.

The 4010 is an integrated unit that looks like a console operator position, but actually includes the BIM cards within the unit itself. For multiple operator positions, you hook 4010s in parallel; works fine for 2, maybe 3, but becomes a bear to align beyond that.

Zetron stuff is pricey (but no more so than Motorola); most folks think that Zetron equipment and the Zetron company is more user-friendly and flexible than most Motorola stuff.

GAI-Tronics has one of two Console Dispatch solutions that may suit your needs. Depending on what you are looking for, they have a standard Button and Led Desktop version and a GUI Computer Touch-Screen version. Both units are capable of 4, 8, or 12 channels. The 4 and 8 channel models are expandable later on down the road. You can check out the specs and even see a demo at http://www.gai-tronics.com.
