I understand there have been a few SRN's on transmit noise (related to physical movement) on the JEDI radios. (This is the one that people say sounds like wind over the mic when there's no wind.)

Does anyone remember anything about this series of SRN's? What the fixes were/are?

I just started into a set of 4(!) Jedi's and, they all have this problem to some degree. I thought it was a loose antenna connector, but, they seem tight. However, rocking the antenna by the base back and forth a little causes the cracklies, as does giving the case a good squeeze. Has to be some grounds, but, which ones? Maybe I will dip the board in JB Weld?

I understand this has been solved, so, I'd like to save some time. A search of the board archives mentions only one of the SRN's, but, I think there were more.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you maybe looking for the Jedi microphonics repair kit? REX4465A?

Here's what I did on these radios:

(1) I cleaned everything with a good solvent, including the places where tabs contact the frame, RF connector, etc. I cleaned the tabs as well.
(2) I bent up all the tabs that make contact, making certain they were aligned with the surface they contact.
(3) Soldered the removable(!) shields to the open ground points where the shields are supposed to contact the boards. Just a drop to bond the two - easy to remove. (I put a label on the shield to this effect.) Three places.

This seemed to clear up all four, and, all have been returned to service. I could duplicate the problem at will before, no problem now. We'll see.

The microphonics kit above is the official fix for the Jedi TX noise problem (had several of my own do it). Its easy to reproduce, just "twist" the housing a bit while TX and you'll get loud scratchy sounds over the TX audio.

What's in the REX4465A kit? At $93.25 (list) each, I'd sure expect a sure fix.

REX4465A Contents: One new shield kit, one new flex kit, the shield clips, a small shield adheisive strip, the RF brick amp thermal strip and a small insulator adhesive strip, and lastely a small rubber spongy insulator.
I have installed these on many a jedi portable and they usually clear up the problem......
