ex600xls questions

Two questions about the ex600...

First question: is it possible to have multiple user programmable scan lists, or can only one be enabled as user programmable? From what I understand the ex600 supports 16 scan lists.

My second question is this: In my current scanlist, I have one channel with carrier squelch receive. Sometimes while receiving on it during scan, the radio stops passing audio after the first transmission drops out and the second and subsequent transmissions start. I know it's still receiving because the RSSI is showing the signal strength and the red light is blinking. It also doesn't resume scan even though it's not passing the audio. Pressing the monitor button doesn't allow the audio to pass either. If I stop and restart the scan the audio resumes. Any ideas on what would be causing this or how to remedy it? The radio's firmware is 5.09.02.

I am currently looking into this with motorola. I have 4 HT1550's that are all having the same problem as yours and two of them have the newest firmware. I really believe this is a firmware issue, but still trying to get answers from moto.

you can't edit something that isn't there, add all the lists you want and assign them to a mode then you can edit them. your interference problem could be coming from anywhere, even your computer. that firmware is almost new, i just put 5.09.15 in mine today and it's the newest.

Here's what I know from working with these stupid radios...

IN order for any channel to exist in a scan list, it needs to be assigned first to a scan list. If I channel is not in a scan list, you can't user program the channel in to ANY scan list.

If you have several scan lists, you can't have that same channel in another scan list unless you create a second copy of that channel, and assign it to a second scan list. There is ony a one to one relationship between channels and scan lists.

If you are user programming a scan list, and you want to be able to add a channel from scan list a to scan list b, you can't do it.

If you select a channel that you want to listen to and scan, and it does not have an assigned scan list, your radio will not scan.

If you select a channel that you want to be priority (if your using selected mode as 1st priority) and it is on a different scan list - you then switch to useing that different scan list and it's associated settings.

Maybe that helps clear some of this up.

IF YOU WANT ANY LEVEL of flexability with the scanning - give every channel scan list 1, and simply user program the scan as you need things setup.

Here's how mine are setup.

We have 32channels in use, every channel has scan list 1 enabled on it. Everychannel is using MDC1200 PTT ID. The scan lists aren't user programmable. We are only scanning 4 channels.

When the guys key the radio on channel 2 (it is in scan list but not priority 1) the radio will show the RSSI very high but won't pass the audio of the repeater hang time. If we are on channel 4, and 2 keys up the audio is significantly delayed, but again the RSSI shows the radio is receiving at a very high signal strength. This exact issue happens on channel 4 which is priority. Our fleet of HT1000's do not have this issue at all.

Any ideas, I can email code plugs if that would help. Something that is a little starnge is I have trouble reproducing this issue on a service monitor.

Thanks for the responses about the scan list and scanning.

Vercomm, if you find out anything about that problem, let me know. Fortunately for me the channel it does it on isn't something crucial, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Anyone know if the latest firmware releases fix the problem with carrier squelch channels and scanning?

are you shure there is a valid signal? alot of times on csq you can pick up interference from other electronic devices. and if the interference is strong enuf it'll even stop on a freq with a pl/dpl. mine acts funny around computers and certain electronic devices. i don't recall any of the last couple release notes saying anything about fixing that problem.

Yeah, it's a valid signal. Usually what happens is one unit transmits and unkeys, then when the second unit transmits the rssi indicates a signal but the audio isn't opened. I can get the audio to open by pressing one of the keys on front or hitting the monitor button.

if you go to the options tab in that personality see if the squelch is set to normal or tight?

I don't have access to the rss, but per the utlities menu it's set to normal.

These radios have a bad habit of having screws falling out of the board where it is screwed to the chassis and causing problems. One I saw was acting like it was programmed for busy channel lock out and another had no PTT, both caused by screws shoring out on the main board. Never seen any serious damage done, just wierd issues.

if it's still under warranty send it in to be checked out or if it's an issued radio see if they will swap it out for you?

Hi Pat,

I figured out what was happening with the 1550's. Every time new firmware came out I updated them and still had the problem.

Are you using MDC1200 PTT Encode/Decode?

I'm not using MDC on any of the channels

Hmmmm??

My problem was related to MDC Decode. I guess you could try updating the firmware to the latest release which is R05.11.05 and see what happens.

What is your scan hang time set to (how long does the radio stay on a channel that has activity before it resumes scanning)

Do you have a priority channel, second priority channel; if so what is the sampling time for each of those channels (how oftern does your radio check the priority for activity).
