Calling all MSF5000 God's for Help!! (Zetron 38 to MSF5K)

Hello,

My company is currently looking to upgrade our current community repeaters. We are looking at getting quite a deal on some of the following MSF5000's. C73CXB7106BT.

We will want to interface a Zetron Model 38 tone panel to the MSF5000 and have the zetron be the controller(i.e. program MSF5000 as base station). Has anyone come up with a step by step procedure for this. I have seen many posts but nothing really put together from start to finish.

Also how to get the basic's out of a MSF5000 without wildcard (Disc, PTT, COS, GND, Tx Audio) for connecting model 30 or other similar device.

Help would be much appreciated!!!!

P.S. Which repeater is more durable, tougher, and better performer, MSF5000(above model) or Quantar (125watt version)? The reason I ask is I have quite a few quantars in service and am having trouble finding used ones(I like them a lot), but as I mentioned above may have quite a deal cooking on some MSF5000's!! Opinions are appreciated!!!!

The MSF5000 is probably simpler and more bullet-proof, but as it's been discontinued - like so much other Motorola stuff - replacement parts are already expensive and difficult to get.

I would think that most of the signals you're looking for can be found on the various test points and the MRTI connector on the SSCB.

I'd also think that Zetron would have connection information for most of the popular stations, including MSF5000s. You might want to check their web site or give them a call and ask.

The MSF5000 page on Batlabs has several different methods of interfacing to the MSF5000, including a very detailed write-up by kcbooboo under "alternate interfacing option #3".

There was also a series of MSF5000 interface threads by member FMROB back in 2004 which contained a great bit of detail for interfacing a controller. Here are a few of the threads to read through...more info can be found by using the 'search' feature with the keywords "msf5000" and "controller".

The model 38 installation manual also has all the info you need for the msf5000. I have hooked up several to 5000's with no problem by following zetron's instructions.

If those instructions tell you where to pick up various signals, I'd be interested in a few pages from it, either scanned or copied and mailed.

That manual is available over on the RBTIP website and shows hookup info for both the MSF5K analog and digital stations.

It also has connection info for the GE Mastr II and III, Exec II, an Icom model, a few EF Johnsons, a couple Kenwoods, the MSF5000's, MTR2000, MCR-100, Radius R-100, Micor, Tait, GR300 repeater or two GM300 radios.

It's a good reference for connecting any controller to those listed.
