Automatic Updates

Post by Jim2121 »

Ever since the last microsoft update on 4/11 ....after downloading the patches: KB911562, KB912812, KB911567, KB908531

On a boot-up I now have this Automatic Update yellow shield on my taskbar, sitting there? (I hold the pointer over it & it says downloading updates 0% of.... it trys to download something every day since?)
Then a box pops up & says you have successfully downloaded your updates. ?? I can shut of my pc 5 times a day & I get a repeat of the above? My download settings are set for "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"

anyone else after last tuesdays microsoft fix? or is there a fix?
thx. in advance Jim

I didn't have that problem, but sometimes the servers are busy and they can't complete their task.

You might try doing this early in the morning or real late at night: click on the yellow shield and see if you can start it manually. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

Otherwise, click START, then Windows Updates. Do the whole process manually and see if anything comes across. You might as well choose Express and let it just do the critical updates. If it does them, hopefully the yellow shield will go away next time you turn the computer on.

Have you visited the new Microsoft Update site yet? Most have been redirected there from the old windows update site by now, but just in case i thought i would ask.

I was having the same issue show up here, and i got a few calls about the same problem. It was a bug in the changeover from the old to the new windows update servers and usually once you go to the new Microsoft Update site and choose Custom for the scan type and install all the available updates it goes away.

If you already did that then its probably a server congestion problem. Try manually updating it from the website and see if it completes.

Hi Scott, I have the new Microsoft Update site.. I always go there & do an Express download & check the history. As for the updates I listed on my top post I went into the CP & uninstalled those four! I have this problem on another laptop & a desktop...3 PC's Now that I removed the 4/11 updates. the problem is gone.
