I have a number of Maratrac's that have recently been taken out of mobile service. Most of the units are in "like new condition" and I want to donate them to other local agencies for use as base stations. We are currently constructing an area-wide VHF mutual-aid system that consists of two channels. Does anyone know if you can make the Maratrac channel steer F1/F2? If so, do you need the A-5 clamshell head? All of these units have the A-7 head.

Can you explain "channel steering" as it refers to your project?

The A5 clamshell head uses a binary switch for the channel (MODE) select.

The plan is to use a DC channel control module on the console and a DC remote adapter with F1/F2 to select the channel on the Maratac. We will be using two seperate VHF frequencies, one being primary, the other being a secondary channel. I am looking for a way to allow the dispatcher to select the channel without going to the equipment shed and changing it on the control head. I have had experience with both DC and Tone remote control using CDM series radio's, but have ran into a wall with the Maratrac.

Using the "clamshell" type control head board would be the way to go.

Then use a diode matricse to select MODE from the remote adaptor. This would bypass the MODE selector on the clamshell board.


In you case with just two Modes, you do not need the diodes.

So you need to lift the switch's wiper from logic ground.
Add a lead from Mode 1 select to the F1 in the remote adaptor.

Another lead from Mode 2 select to F2 relay contact.

A lead from the relay contact common back to the logic ground on the clamshell board.
