I know they're not the same, one is ruggedized and submersible, as well as being specifically made for the ruggedized radio, but, are the non-r batteries able to be slipped onto the rugged saber without too much difficulty? Conflicting reports leave me wondering.

Thanks

Negative. An R-series battery CAN NOT be mounted to a non-R-series radio, nor vice versa. The mounting systems are completely different (R batteries slide into the radio chassis like a plunger... non-R batteries slide onto rails).

If you've got an R-series radio, congratulations, you get to buy $180 batteries...

Thier redeeming factor though is that as to the best of my knowledge, they can be easily recased to a regular housing...

Don't the batteries go for like $100 max on ebay?

I've seen them for between $50 and $100 relatively recently on eBay.
If you want to pay $180 you contact the online two-way retailers (G).

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the quality of the
offbrand/aftermarket Saber batteries has been improving? I got a cheap
2700 mAh NiMH from an outfit in FL recently and it fits as good
as a Motorola unit. In the past the aftermarket stuff has always been
too tight or else it rocked back and forth on the mouting plate.

I got a radio from Brocomm and it came with a Honeywell battery. Complete piece of garbage.
