Just got one of these lots:

Hope I end up with something usable. Going to have to get programming 'stuff' in order to check them out now too. Hopefully I get lucky like someone else did recently and open the cases and find a display :) I want to make an ASIII if I can.

If I don't get my 'stuff' together by Dayton, I hope one of you experienced AS guys can help me out in checking it out. I may keep one and sell the other, or trade it for the parts I will need.

I have had good luck buying from this seller.
On the radio, start looking for your III case NOW. They are hard to find.
Displays can be found from around $ 100 each, used. The keypad is part of the speaker/ mic holder and is in your radio. the display will snap in the holder and plug in the vocom board. The last step is to find someone to help you with the I to III radio uplift.
I am sure that someone here on the boards can PM you with help in that area.
The Astro Saber series radios are GREAT. You should get years of good use from your radio.

Have fun and enjoy

Yeah the 'uplift' I will definitely need help with. How can I get the famed 4F1E in these suckers?

4F1E sucks. It had OTACR and OTARS which is completly useless to you and unless it is a VSELP radio, software encryption will be of no use to you.

Yeah I obviously don't need those options but unless they conflict and cause other things not to work then I don't mind them being there. It just seems that the 4f1e flash is the most prevalent therefore easiest to obtain. Is there another flash out there without these options that is common? If anyone can share an S-rec i'd appreciate it.

Try 599108-1C5E00-1, it has statalert and MDC status, which would be of more use to you. As far as an S-Record, maybe someone else can help.

I've bought a lot of radios from that seller, good guy! If they work he says so, if they are truly untested than he states as such.

Sounds like a fun project, i know nothing about Astro's yet.. lol
