Need Saber I workaround for pls

Here's my dilemma. I am programming a Saber I Securenet for a customer outside the US.

His frequency list includes non standard pls. The RSS seems to take them and the radio should do them.

However, his list includes six different pl tones total, the RSS is telling me it's 12 and locks up with a warning screen.

The PLs are 120.0 hz, 125.0 hz 100.0 hz (only standard one) 180.0 hz 165.0 hz

Is there a workaround for a problem like this? IS there any way to get these into the radio, or do I have to ask the customer if he can do without the receive pl on six channels? How does he RSS count the unique pls?

i didn't think you were supposed to ship secure radios out of the us. never tried to enter pl's like that but try holding the shift key while you enter the numbers.

Just so you and everyone else knows. There are no more restrictions on shipping encryption products of this nature out of the US. There are no more munitions license requirement.

Any product with less than 56 bit encryption can be shipped anywhere in the world except the 7 terrorist states: Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, North Korea and Sudan without any export license.

BTW these are only secure capable radio, but they could in theory be made to encrypt by adding the correct modules, so I checked with my customs broker.

Back to the subject. The software seems to take the strange pls. Except it counts them as more than there really are.

Does your customer really need PL on receive? In terms of intermod and stuff like that the Saber's are pretty immune.

Unless it's a shared system and they only want to hear certain users.

He cahnged his original program to one standard pl for all 12 channels

So the my dilemma is solved, at least this particular one.

I'm curious if there is a solution, you can fool the radio into taking 15 channels and you can program it beyond the bandsplit. I'm wondering if there is way to throw an extra pl or two in there as well.

I think the limiting factor is simply the amount of memory you have in the radio.

Base Sabers are, what, 2k or something like that?

Saber I radios can only 'do' 12 channels from the factory, and you can only use a limited amount of P.Ls as well, you can't select multiple PLs from a list like you can with 'most' Saber IIs and IIIs.

Non standard tones can be entered with the RSS, but the radio will not be able to generate them as they are not 'standard' as a tone the radio can generate, so this will probably show up as an error if you attempt to program them, the RSS will probably halt and request you fix the problem.

The tones are created from a 'base' frequency, and if the generator can't divide the frequencies to create the 'new' tone, the radio will not generate the tone or tones.

The tones are generated in U700, which controls PL and DPL generation in the radio, it's not user programmable.

Swapping the front shield and modules will get you a Saber III if you have a Saber III case.

Older Saber IIs used the 2K memory option, later models use 8K.

Saber I models use radio memory only and have no external memory(COPE) to store additional channels, that's why you get only 12 channels in a Saber I radio.

There's barely enough memory for those 12 also....like scanning, or telephone or selectable PL....WYSIWYG....bare bones communications.

Radio channel data and tuning is store in the synthesizer module, which takes up a large portion of board real estate( U300 ).
