Saber II receive audio disabled-how do I enable it?

I purchased a couple of nice Saber II UHF radios from a seller on eBay (erac1) which included programming. The radios are in great shape, but the problem is the receive audio doesn't work.

The guys on my squad spent a few minutes trying to get the radios to work before we found the problem. We're able to transmit fine, but we can't hear any audio on the receive side.

The speaker icon on the display shows a line through it which I'm assuming means the audio is disabled and the only way to hear audio when someone is transmitting is to press the monitor button. Doing that, we can hear someone transmitting fine. Otherwise, you can't hear squat.

Is there a menu option or button to enable the receive audio or do I have to send it back to the guy to have him reprogram it? The radios look like this, Saber II UHF 440-470 with a DVP module.

btw..........thanks for the help.

Did you open them to check if the DVP modules are actually in the radio? If not there wont be any audio.

I was told the modules were in the radios.

How do I crack them open to check?

It sounds like there is a recieve PL or DPL that is not correct.

I do not know but he already said
birddog ...the only way to hear audio when someone is transmitting is to press the monitor button.
So it does not sound like it's a DVP issue.

Definitely sounds like the wrong receive PL/DPL was programmed in.

The icon on the display that you describe indicates that channel has receive PL/DPL on it.

The only way to change it is to hook up the radio to a programming computer and fire up the Saber RSS!

Just got off the phone with the seller and it appears the issue is indeed related to PL programming. The downside is I have to send the radios back to be reprogrammed. The upside is the seller has damn good customer service.

I'd prefer to do this stuff myself. As much as I like to tinker, I think I'd enjoy it. Anyone know of someone in the Dallas area who would be willing to teach a private Saber programming how-to for some $$$?

All you need is a RIB, Saber cable and the RSS. The first two are available on Ebay the RSS is available [FROM MOTOROLA, edited by JAYMZ].

It only takes a few minutes to learn the RSS it's pretty intuituve.
