XTS3000 scan issues

I've had lots of /\/\ radios and they all have had some fashion of scan routines. The easiest so far was the 99 channel MT1000 where you could just turn the radio on and pick up to 8 of the 99 channels to scan with a 9th set up as a priority channel. The scan list was editable on the fly and channels could be rapidly added/deleted as the situation demanded.

The XTS3000 on the other hand is no way near as easy to understand or program. I have the programming manual, the end-users "users manual" and the latest software and STILL can't make heads or tails out of it.

I understand you can write multiple scan lists but can they be accessed from the radio w/o going back into the codeplug? My HT1000 has a similar scanning system but it's infinitely more straightforward that the XTS. By the way...I have an XTS3000 Model 1.

Anyone out there know of a primer for XTS scanning principals? The programming manual tells you how to activate scan lists but not how they're to be implemented.

And, at the risk of getting yelled at for asking this here instead of starting a new thread, does anyone know of a way to switch my XTS3000 from the 430-470 to the 450-512 range? I believe my employer is switching from a conventional analog 460MHz system to a 478MHz Astro digital trunked system in the near future and I'm afraid I'll be out of luck.

Thanks, gang

Jim

Unfortunately, without the display you have to know what buttons are set up for scan list programming. There is no universal primer.

Your radio should have no problem going up to 477 without any changes. You will have to modify the RSS or CPS to get it to go any higher but if its just to 478 the radio shouldnt complain.

The big problem comes from the fact that your employer will now be using a trunk system. You will have to hope that they will allow their radio shop to program your radio so that you get a valid ID and don't have to worry about your radio being bricked by the system admin. Other the other hand they might not be too keen on modifying their cps to program your radio out of band.

As far as changing the band of your radio your only option is to a new RF board and a matching codeplug to reload into the radio. Then have some one to tune it for you. The RF board is about the cost of a an entire used XTS3000 M1.

If you are using your radio for work I would suggest not hacking or modifying it in anyway. Depending on what your line of work is, if something happens where your radio malfunctions during an incident where you or some one else gets hurt then you don't have much of a leg to stand on.

Hope that helps,

Mike

If I interpret your question, it is: how to I select which of multiple scan lists will be used at any one time? The answer is that each "personality" (channel) is tagged to one of the scan lists, and that is the scan list that is used when that channel is "selected" by the channel selector. You set the scan list to be tagged to each channel in the "personality" screen.
