water damage P1225
I have a P1225 that has water damage to the bottom of the board. It will transmit and recieve fine but it will not let me read or write the radio. The 2 shields on both sides of the board have some minor rust in them.The first 1/4 inch of the board must have been the only thing that got wet. I cleaned the battery contacts on the radio and battery. Anyone have any ideas?

I have had the same problem on several water damaged VHF radios. The only reason I ran into it was because the customer need a freq. change
Check for open lands between the +battery connector and the SCI connector pins to there respective points on U304 (SCI switch IC)
My notes are a little hazy but it shows up as having no VCC on pin 5.
As I recall, I just added a temporary jumper from the + bat contact to pin 1, programmed, and removed the jumper. I suppose you could trace the land out and find out where it is bad, but I am getting too old for that stuff -

Not sure what you mean about jumping pins? This is the portable radio. I also don't have the sevice manual for the moble or portatble. What you done sounds like it might work. I have more working knowlage with HT1000's .I had to borrow a programming stand(real M stand) because we don't have the P1225 but we do have the mobles.

Right - this is the portable. I am talking about putting a piece of wire from the + batt contact to pin 1 of the SCI IC. Without VCC to that IC, you cant "turn on" programming. The trace from the + contact takes a leisurely path from the contact to the IC on both sides of the board, some which are not accessable, so the easiest way out for me at the time was to add a wire, program, remove and ship.

I'll have to play with it on Monday,out of time today,this is my week end to work. They were going to scrap it because it was not worth repairing,but it looks like NEW.This one is VHF and has one piece mic jack. Thanks for the help!!!
