We're using a few XTS3000 portables on an 800MHz SmartNET trunked system. Before anyone freaks out, we're authorized to use the system and have issued radio ID's.

The XTS3000 doesn't do RSSI on SmartNET, only on SmartZone. If we were to program the system as if it was a SmartZone, and only entering the 2 control channels in, would there be any adverse effects?

We already use auto-affiliation so that wouldn't be a problem.

No, it'll still work the same. Just that when you get out of the system's range, it'll look through the control channel list or listen to the control channel for neighboring sites-- which it won't see.... sometimes, if configured, the radio will do a band search to find a usable control channel, so in the end it may just be a bigger time delay in locking onto the control channels... but can't be sure.

I don't see any problem with programming it as such.
