HT/JT1000/Visar RSS Question...

Hi...I have a VHF JT1000, with the latest Firmware 3.02, and am using RSS v3.03....my question is, in the "Scan Config" screen, what exactly does "Priority Channel Unmute" and "Selected Channel Unmute" Do? and which should I enable, if any? the first is default enabled....I do not use QC II, just reg. conventional freq's, and same in Scan...should I Disable "Pri. Ch Unmute" or leave it Enabled? and what about "Sel. Ch Unmute" I think they both have to do when using QCII to force the unmuting during scan so the alert can be decoded...but I'm not sure exactly what they each do, and if I need them enabled, and if I leave the first enabled, will it affect my reg. scan operation at all? or is it irrelevant since I am not using any decoded signalling? thanks, david KD6RFS

that means you can select your priority channel and make it permanent or it will be whatever the channel selector is pointing to. i make mine the selected channel.

The fixed or selected priority is a seperate function from the unmutes.
Muting is different from selecting. Gotta read these carefully.
The mute functions have to do with the action after a specific
decode happens. Phrawg

okay...I do NOT use any Quick Call II or MDC Decode it is disabled, so what do I set the two at? enabled or disabled? the unmuting logic, I read the RSS manual, and it is VERY hard to understand on these two features, I can understand everything else in the manual and help screens, but these two functions are weird too me, Can someone PLeAsE give it too me in plain english, which should I enable, or disable, or both off?? thanks, David KD6RFS

Is the JT just for ham-radio? If so, then leave them both disabled....
There's a Operating Instruction Manual (book-JT1000) that you might pick up on e-bay or from someone who has one... might help ....or see how much $$
moto wants for it? part no. 68P81078C45-A

thanks...I have that manual, and the RSS manual, and all the service manuals....I can usually figure out all the feature settings, but this one is a little confusing? Priority Ch Unmute comes Default Enabled....I AM using the JT just for 2M ham use, and as a recieve also, for our county Deputys and Fire...I use it for our ARES/RACES County Disaster Communications.....so we have to be able to monitor the sheriffs and fire, they are ALL VHF in our county, so it works perfect....but I think the best is to Disable both.....thanks, david kd6rfs

Leave them both disabled. I run mine that way, and I use it for ham, fire/rescue, and USFS stuff. As previously mentioned, those settings affect the function of the receiver when RX signalling is enabled, and that's their purpose. Which RX unmuting/muting setting you choose in the RSS also affects how the receiver handles the unmuting of the audio. Basically, an oversimplified answer is that each of these parameters adds time to the unmuting sequence, so if there's no need for the "brain" to take the time to look for another unmuting parameter, the overall unmuting time will be shorter.
Also be aware that the unmuting is forced to AND when in the scan mode, regardless of the selection you made in the software. If you selected STD/STD unmuting/muting, you've probably already noticed the reduction in low signal level RX sensitivity between scan on and scan off. This is MotherMoto's way of keeping the "falsing" to a minimum during scan. Quite annoying actually, but the design is really a way of keeping adjacent channel interference and intermod at bay in high density RF environments. There are several Motos that "suffer" from this "flaw" if you're into DXing.
Hope this helps.
