Make a non secure spectra secure

Post by WB4JGI »

I have a high power vhf non secure spectra T83FWA7HA9AK. I'm curious if I can change the model number in lab rss to a GX instead of FW and add the HLN6000 Carrier board w/DES-XL module into the radio and make it secure ready. Has anyone ever tried this? Or is it even feasible? Also having never seen a secure capable spectra up close I'm not sure which connector the carrier board goes into but, there are 2 empty connectors on the board. Hence I'm not sure if a carrier board would fit or even where it plugs into.

Change the Model number.

Check the Radio wide options in RSS.

Install the carrier board, with the Encription module, upside down onto the one available male (16 pin) connector on the Command board. There are plastic pos to keep the secure carrier board in the proper location.

Program the radio with the Secure enabled. Load a KEY, AWYG!!!!!!

what will happen if I bit bang the radio to a GX model number. Once that is done I will be using Spectra RSS ver 6.00.05 to make all the other programming changes.

If its a newer radio you will need newer lab than that. You really don't need to change the model #, thats not gonna enable it. You have to go into the moflags and change it in there, plus your going to have to add a keyloader jack to the drawer unit as well.
