XTS3000 codeplug version?

Hey guys,
I was wondering what the "Codeplug version" refers to on the radio info page inside the XTS3000 Tuner?
I was thinking it would be refering to the latest version of RSS or CPS used to program the radio, but this must be wrong since I have a radio with "Codeplug version: 12", and as far as I know, neither RSS or CPS has been released with such a version number.
Or does it signify something else entirely?

BTW, the reason I posted this question was that I have had absolutely no luck at all reading my radio with any RSS or CPS so far.
I'm not sure of the whole history of the radio, although indications are that it likely has not been programmed in years.
I am getting the classic "codeplug too new for this application" when it tries to unpack the codeplug it reads.
I have tried up to CPS R04.01.04 but to no avail. I am getting the distinct impression that even if I get the latest CPS I may still be seeing this message, as I really doubt the radio has been programmed that recently.
So my question is this, could there be something else at play here? Is it possible whoever last programmed it used some sort of trick to prevent the reading of this radio?
I'm about at my wits end here, so any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Get version 5 cps and read it and see what happens. Sounds like to me it has been touched by it.

I've just checked with the person I bought it off, he swears it hasn't been touched in over 4 years programming wise. Given what is programmed in to it, I'm inclined to believe him.
I will give CPS 5 a go when I get a hold of it and get around to installing it.
I really do think there is another problem at play here. Maybe whoever programmed it didn't want anyone to read it?
CPS R05.00.02: no go...

I've just given reading the radio yet another go, now with CPS R05.00.02.
No go. It looks like I got the latest version of the codeplug too new error; I got 3 error dialogues as follows:
1. The current CPS version cannot support this codeplug as it is not compatible with this release. Please upgrade to the latest CPS version via
http://motonline.mot.com or contacting Customer Service at 1-800-927-2744.
2. Unable to unpack block External Radio Blk.
3. PassII- Unable to transfer block External Radio Blk from CpDb to Db Unpack failed.
This confirms my suspicions that either something strange was done programming-wise to this radio, or it has suffered some form of corruption.
Is my only option using the Lab software to clone a codeplug into it?
If I was to go this option, I realise the codeplug must be from a radio with the same model number, but does the Flashcode need to be identical?
Thanks in advance for any insights and ideas.
