Motorola has released a new line of "lower end" digital radio's.

http://www.motorola.com/mototrbo

It looks like a "transition" product that will allow an analogue user to phase these into an existing system in analogue mode, the switch to digital when the fleet is changed out.
2-slot TDMA in a 12.5 kHz channel.
VHF and UHF. Repeater available. One repeater to repeater 2 separate digital streams.
Get 2 companies to combine their 2 separate simplex channels into a repeater pair and share the repeater hardware.

Does anybody have PRICES on these things yet, or is this another Circle-M secret.

One half picture is NOT adequate to show off this supposedly 'new' radio platform.

Typical Circle-M subterfuge.....*laughing*

They were waiting until their big dealer session at the IWCE in Vegas this past week to officially announce the product, so there should be more info available shortly. I was there & saw the hardware & actually tried it out with two portables on different "channels"...it was cool to see the "time slot 1" and "time slot 2" lights come on at the repeater...TDMA should have been done here long ago. The field units appear to be Waris series based, and the repeater has the same physical housing as the GR1225, although I didn't get to look inside to see what it was actually comprised of. All I really heard about for pricing was that the repeater was going to cost somewhere in between the GR1225 & the MTR2000...don't know about the portables & mobiles yet. They're targetting Q4 2006 for availability here in Canada...I believe U.S. availability is pretty much immediate.

If you click on "MOTOTRBO System" Menu on the left, then click "Industry Benifits" on the sub-menu it pops down, in the movie you watch it shows close-ups of the equiptment. Definately looks Waris/CDM based design.

That's not half as cool as TETRA.

Looks like it follows ETSI DMR standards though. I posted details of the DMR draft here a while ago, and I've wondering when/what kind of gear would start popping up.
