Hi There.
I have several brief questions regarding this radio which I purchased at a govt auction...

a) it is self programable inb the field which I am able to do with no problems. Is there/was there ever a user manual for the self programable xts made? would anyone know where i could either get the manual? a pdf of it? or at least on line refference of the self programming?

b) I have rss for it but I suspect that it is not the correct one. I hook up the usb prog cable(genuine big ^^ cable) and it states it can not comunicate with the radio. The cps that I have is R. 05.00.02 and it states it is for the xts 3000 , however it does pick up the 5000. Is this my problem? What would be the current version of cps of the xts 5000r? It is a vhf unit.
many thanks...

First, any XTS5000 Mod 3 can be flashed to do FPP. There isn't a separate version of the XTS5000 for this feature. With that being said I don’t think there is a user manual for what you’re after. In a nutshell, there are two types of front panel programming available for the 5K. The first is option Q52, which is the version where no programming key needs to be attached. Second is Q53, which from what I hear requires some type of programming adapter to be attached to the radio. (Never played with Q53)

Second, the XTS5000 has it's own CPS, and the XTS3000 is not even in the picture. XTS3000 CPS will not communicate with an XTS5000. The latest CPS that I have for the XTS5000 is R07.01.01, but I guess R07.01.02 was just recently released. On a side note, you need to know what version firmware is in your radio because it needs to work together with the version CPS you are using. Example... if your radio has R07.00.00 in it, then you can’t use Astro25 version 6 to program it. The CPS needs to be equal or higher than your firmware version. Hope this all makes sense.

R05.00.02 is for Astro Saber, Astro Spectra and XTS3000. You need Astro 25 software to program yours.

Firmware version does not matter to the CPS, what does matter is if it was last programmed with 07.01.02 and you have 07.01.01 it will give you a "codeplug too new" error. Firmware has nothing to do with this.

Many thanks for the responses so far. This model ( i was told was a govt version) needs no programming key. Thanks for the clarification on that.

regarding the cps, If I am understanding you correctly, I need to get "specific cps for xts 5000" as apposed to trying to do it with cps for a 3k. Thats kind of what i figured was wrong in as much as the cable is brand new ordered from motorola and the radio seems to be in fine shape operating weise. Is there a way(through any series of key strokes) to make the radio flash the firmwate version on the lcd screen? It is a full keybnoard radio...

Thanks for your help in advance...

Turn the radio on, then press the side button just above the PTT 5-times in a row. All your info will then show up on the display.
