Maxtrac on 70cm?

I'm currently the high bidder on a Maxtrac 300. The bandsplit indicated is 449 to 470, but I'd be interested in using it mostly in the 70cm band, for simplex (446 MHz) and repeaters (443 RX, 448 TX).

What am I in for? Can I just fire it up on the ham bands, or will it need hardware adjustments (which are probably beyond my know-how)?

Here's to asking these things before bidding!

I have had one of the same 'advertised' split used on the Ham bands; you just need to preform the "Shift Key" method while in RSS. I had no problems that I was aware of with them.

If it does give you trouble below 449, there's an article over on repeater-builder.com in the Motorola/MaxTrac section that tells you how to make a quick adjustment to make it work lower in frequency, by giving up a little at the high end.

Not all versions of MaxTrac programming software let you use the SHIFT-NUMBER method.
