I heard IRS used these, but has anyone seen one or had one?
I saw that JA1 had one for sale at one point, maybe the buyer of that radio can tell me/us what it entails.

If it's just a cable like the w9's, does anyone have the part number?

Radio 2 need not tx in this particular case, however dual radio/dual tx would be nice for future installs.

Any info would be appreciated.

btw-I know it's 3am, and yes I am going to bed now.

Hi Seth,

There are two different Dual Radio Systems for Astro mobile radios. The first is a carry over from the conventional spectra and syntor days. These systems require an external interface box which combines two W9 radios to a HHCH that is a SP A3 two digit LED version (the syntor X9000 and spectra dual radio HHCH work with the astro system). The second system is for the XTL5000 series radios and consists of a special cable that interfaces two XTL5000 radios to a SP W3 HHCH (I do not know if it is a standard W3 HHCH with a different quick disconnect connector attached to it instead of the standard DB25). The XTL5000's need to have dual radio software installed at the factory for this system to work. Hope this helps!!!

The 3rd which Seth has seen is the Astro Spectra HRR setup. It requires no special firmware of flashcode. Just a $150? cable and two W7 or W9 radios.

2nd radio will RX only, no matter what. Even a radio set to SZ WILL not TX under any conditions. Just an expensive reciever.

The XTL5000 also has the same setup available, but I think the software option is close to a grand, and must be installed at the factory when ordered (no field upgrades according to them).

For the XTL's I believe there are two packages: Dual HRR and Dual radio. I *thought* I saw somewhere a mention in a manual that you can have true dual radio like the x9000's with the XTL5k's, but I will have to dig thru some stuff. From the factory pricing, that's just an extra $2k just for the dual option on top of all the other options.
