Sorry for such a newb question... Even thought it shows I have encryption capabilities within the service screen (by pressing ".." five times), do I still need to physically disassemble the radio to confirm if there is one actually installed?

Nope... if you see the algorithms (KG1 DES-OFB, KG2 DES-XL), like that, the radio has communicated with the installed module to get all of that data.
