Astro Saber & Sabers, won't talk to each other w/ DES-XL

Helle again everyone, I have another oddball one for you. (Or perhaps it's not all that obstuse, but just something simlpe but just outside my knowledge.)

I have an AS3, and some regular Sabers, all DES-XL-equipped. (And re: the AS3, yes, I mean via the 1153 module, not that software encryption crap). The problem is the AS will not communicate w/ the analog Sabers in secure, and this is on channels that (in the AS) are set for non-astro emission. You transmit on the AS, you hear hash on the analog Sabers, and vice-versa. I tried re-keyloading all the radios with new keys just for the hell of it so I could be 120% sure they were on the same page, but no joy. I tried a new 1153 in the AS3, but no joy.

Am I missing something obvious, or have I found another one that no one else in the world has ever run into? Thanks guys, for any light you can shine on this!!

are you absolutely certain the astro sabers are transmitting XL and not plain des?

there is at least one, if not two options in CPS/RSS for ensuring this is the case...

same goes for the analog sabers... the "transmit XL" function must be enabled.... as an astro saber doesn't understand plain "DES" (at least not in astro mode)

Have you tried aligning both radios? Many people who own astro equipment fail to understand you can't just whore a codeplug into into it without retuning or at the very least, transferring the original tuning values over to the new codeplug.

Well, talk about overlooking something totally stupid. After double-checking my settings in RSS, and even using an unadulterated, non-whored AS, I discovered that in the PARTICULAR ZONE I was using, I DID, in fact, have those personalities' Receive Voice/Signal Type set to "mixed mode", wihch as you know locks your secure mode to Astro as opposed to Securenet. For some reason, I had forgotten and I thought that the TRANSMIT Voice/Signal Type was the determining fatcor.

What the hell is wrong with me, I've done this a dozen times and still just bulldozed right through without noticing that. Okay, thanks for letting me waste evryone's time!

Now I'm off to reread that thread on Spectra-to-Astro Spectra conversions and try my hand at that, since I have some new toys coming this week that I can dedicate to the project. And I swear if anything goes wrong, I'm just hiding it in the closet and never saying a word about it!
