I have a Syntor x9000 with a Systems 9000 (Siren/PA) I had the radio tested and programmed at an Authorized Motorola Service Center. The radio it self works flawless. I am however having troubles with the Systems 9000 part of the operation. When I push the SIREN button on my x9000 control head, the red light comes on. If I push WAIL, MAN, ExRad, Etc. The display shows up on the control head, but nothing happens. I have the connector from the trunk mount to the systems 9000 hooked up, and have the External Speaker wired. I just can't figure out why nothing happens with the Systems 9000 when any of the function buttons are pressed.

Do you have input power to the siren box wired up? There should be a second set of power wires for the amplifier unit itself.

There is no second set of wires going to the Systems 9000 By looking at all of the connections, it seems as though the Systems 9000 is getting its power from the main wires going into the trunk unit itself.

Negative. The siren amp should have its own set of power wires... that's what drives the amplifier itself. If you don't have those, you've got an incomplete cable. The amp draws somewhere in the 15A range... there's nothing in the cable from the radio deck to the amplifier that's big enough to handle that kind of smoke.

FYI, Systems 9000 is the name of a series of radios, starting with the Syntor 9000. Some people may get confused, especially since there's a VRS that says "Systems 9000" on it too. Calling it an HLN1185 or siren box is a better idea.

I'm actually about to ship off an X9000 with a siren unit attached... had it on the bench today. I can assure you there is a separate set of wires to power the amplifer... had to do some rigging to get everything powered up at once off the big 50A power supply.

If you don't have a seperate Red and Black coming from the siren/pa amp end of that T-Cable then it isn't the correct cable.

It's most like a X9000 HKN4295A External Options Housing/VRS T-Cable which doesn't have either, the A position isn't even populated and the B position is just jumpered to pin 10 to supply ground.

However, you have the zip cord coming out from pins 20 and 35 to connect the siren speaker to?? That's weird, because the EOH/VRS cable doesn't have that.

Maybe someone "tried" making a cable and sold it when it didn't work..

The good news is the cable wiring can be made to work by adding the A and B connections to power the siren/pa amp. You might also want to check and make sure the speaker wires are going to the correct pins while your at it.

OK, I got the power situation taken care of. Now when I turn the siren on and press a function button, the output sound is very weak. If I am in my car with the doors and windows closed you can't even hear it. It sounds as though there isn't enough power going to the Siren Box, but I have a direct fused line powering it.

Any suggestions?

Just to add, I looked at where the Zip cord is hooked up to and it is connected to pins 20 and 35 for the 100w speaker (which I have) I guess if this whole thing doesnt get straightened out, I am just going to have to remount my siren that I bought from Galls 4 years ago.

See the note about the HLN1185 Siren/PA.

Test your speaker wiring and speaker. The HLN1185 will detect a speaker short circuit and cut power to the speaker (the short could be between some speaker coil internal wires causing too low an impedance). Check for an open circuit between pins 20 and 35 on the cable connector using an ohm meter with the Siren/PA cable disconnected (it should be a low resistance). Check for any shorts to ground on either speaker lead with the cable disconnected. The Motorola Siren speakers are rated at 11 ohms.
