800Mhz Rebanding Q

Post by Josh »

Since an 800Mhz radio requires the latest firmware in order to work rebanded frequencies, would this also mean that the DSP of the radios would also be upgraded?

One of those food for thought kinda things.

Are you asking if rebanding requires a codec change and thus a DSP upgrade, or are you asking if the DSP is upgraded just because the host was? The latter is true, at least for ASTRO25 products. Host and DSP upgrades are always together, and are generally very close numberically. For rebanding, the appropriate ASTRO25 Host is R07.02.00 and DSP is R07.01.01.

Well, I've been hearing lately on my local system a lot of radio checks and what not. While it runs IMBE, it's got the 3600 baud control channel.

The system is 2001 vintage, old DSP Codecs, kinda sounds like crap....
so my question is, that if the radios require a Host firmware boost in order to work the rebanded stuff, wouldn't the DSP be uplifted as well?

-OR- is rebanding simply something that is supported with the earlier firmwares as well? I thought ASTRO25 was all 6.xx.xx firmware too..

I guess I'lll take a gander at the FAQ as well.

When 3600bps/P16 radios receive a rebanding firmware upgrade, they will also receive a DSP upgrade.

For the XTS3000 and Digital Saber, the firmware will be:

R07.70.00
DSPN08.03.03 (could also be I08.03.03 depending on the vocon version)

For the ASTRO Spectra, it will be R11.70.00/x08.03.03 or higher.

Firmware updates (legitimate ones anyway) come as host/dsp pairs from Motorola.

And just so there's no confusion, the firmware versions which VX pointed out, apply to the ASTRO25 products like the XTS5K, XTS2500, XTL2500, XTL5000, etc.
