Gentlemen,

Before posting the content relating to ASTRO firmware/codeplug structures earlier this afternoon, I took note of the board rules. They are:

Unless you want Motorola to come along and shut this site down, there will be no messages containing or relating to the following subjects:

The sale or trade of Radio Service Software (RSS)
Links to sites offering the sale, trade, or giving away of Radio Service Software (RSS)
Profanity, pornography, defamation, or slanderous remarks directed towards anyone
Commercial advertising
Any other items which may be deemed as offensive
Additionally, please read the board FAQ for futher clarifications on above rules, as well as guidelines for posting.

If these topics appear, they will be deleted.

These rules make no mention of the content which I posted.

I would like an explanation (to enlighten myself, and save others from making the same mistakes) as to why my content was deleted, if it did not infringe upon the established board rules.

Well, I figured I was pretty clear in the PM's that I sent you the other week, but apparently I wasn't. From your origional post that you posted, you read through the rules here, but, you apparently didn't take in to account the discussion that you and I had.

While the main site here does actually have a fair number of hacks and information posted, the board has steered itself more in the relm of technical help and asisstance. You'll notice that a lot of the posts are more help and guidance than hacking this feature or that feature to do xyz. Some of these posts do exist, but they are mainly few and far between, and usually cover getitng around some bug that Motorola wrote in to thei RSS/CPS, or from radios that are so old, it probably would be hard for motorola to come over and go hey, we are loosing money becaus now everyone can write their own features and throw them in to the radio...

That would get me cranked up a little bit if I had written the software and put it out there, not to mention going in to the scary details of "prooving losses" based on information released in to the public.

If you want to start taking appart the Syntor firmware, I don't think many people are going to loose sleep.

Take appart CURRENT production stuff, I think a fw people are going to get their panties in to a knot.

In the future, as explained by PM with the first issue that came up, I ask that you instead ask or approach a moderator regarding something that might be questionable.

It's usually customary to ask before doing something that may or may not fall in to a gray area - when your a guest in someone elses house.

Thank you for your reply.

I kindly ask that you modify the rules of this forum to make items like this more clear, so myself and others in the future are not wasting their time by contributing useful information to this forum, only to have it censored/deleted.

Your concern for Motorola's software programmers and business practices is quite valid, but I think you may be overreacting.

I believe the man who many of us fear is Mr. Harrington of Motorola's IP Enforcement office. Perhaps he should be able to contribute input into these issues, so we have a firm understanding of what is acceptable, and what is not acceptable. Opinions of myself and moderators on these matters aren't binding especially if litigation were to arise. Best we address them now than later.

Again, no disrespect intended towards yourself or your excellent moderation team. I am having troubles understanding why useful and interesting information is not permitted on this forum. It almost seems as if this forum is owned by Motorola sometimes.

Thank you for providing your input on the matter and I look forward to posting more information on the censored topics, if and when it is decided the content is appropriate for this forum.
