While programming my new MTX-838 this afternoon, I noticed the Secure Equipped option is present under Radio Wide Options in RSS R06.07.00.

Is the 838 actually secure capable, or is the RSS just not programmed to hide that option on radios where it isn't applicable?

Nope.
Just the same software for MTS2000.
It's actually the same controller board with the secure connector missing.
It wasn't always that way before I flamed but in the later days of the Jedi series all controller boards were identical apart from the connector.
