GP68.... Don't laugh

I'm going to be receiving a GP68 pretty soon, maybe even tomorrow...

At any rate, I'm probably going to need a new battery, but am having some trouble. About 4 years ago, I had a GP68 and was able to locate a Ni-Mh battery with about 1000-1200Ma of energy that was all contained in the smaller (aka Motorola stock 600ma Ni-Cad) battery size.

I'm sure a number of you know what I'm talking about.... does anyone know where I can get one? The company I originally bought it from 4 years ago seems to be gone and eBay isn't much help right now in terms of the smaller batteries either.

Josh,

Maybe W&W. I hate to recommend them but they may well
be the only source in the USA for a GP68 battery. I had two
of these several years ago and I can't remember if there was
a AA battery carrier available back then for alkalines.

Other battery people may also have them so it depends in a
way on how much time you have available to spend on research.

I have all sorts of time, I have the big battery already, but enjoy the smaller one too, and the days of life I can recall pulling from both of them back when I had a '68 previously.

I wish I hadn't sold it, but then again, I wish the GP2000 hadn't been so highly praised when it was new in 2003.

We used to purchase the GP68 batteries from Motorola AAD. The last time was about a year ago, they were glad to take our money at that time.

Yes, but the small Motorola battery, the PMN4001, is only rated at a measly 600ma.

I'm looking for 1000.... and I know one around that rating is out there even though the GP68 model is getting kinda old now... and the similar SV52 and SU42 Spirit radios are long gone too.

Josh,
I went to Ebay and typed in "Motorola GP68". I found batteries for your radio at 1200,1700 and 1800MA there. Give it another shot.

Indeed the other capacities are there, but I'm looking for the smaller battery, not those big honkers... small in size, not capacity. They have a Motorola branded battery that's of the smaller size, but it's of mediocre capacity, which is why aftermarket is the only option.

I'll do a search again, maybe something new popped up.

Is it not stated anywhere?

I have a large battery with high capacity.

I am looking for the smaller size battery with a decent capacity.

I think this is going nowhere.... maybe something in the smaller size with <600ma capacity will show up sometime, somewhere.

Hi Josh

My company manufactures radio batteries. We have tooling for the short GP68 (PMNN4001) battery. Our standard offering is 600mAh Ni-Cd however we could put one together with 1100mAh Ni-MH cells if you can't find anything elsewhere. The cells are manufactured by Gold Peak, the Japanese companies do not make Ni-MH cells in this size any more. (Gold Peak are pretty good quality cells, actually.) If interested let me know.
