What you guys think Cleveland will do with all there VSELP equiptment when they upgrade to APCO 25 in the next 18 or so months. Will MOTO buy the stuff back and give them credit towards new radios for the new system? or do you think they will just auction the stuff off?. If MOTO does take back the VSELP equiptment what do you think they will do with it?
I know most of Clevelands Spectras (W5,W7,W9s) were made around 1994 so they will probably be all 512K. The Astro SAbers and XTS3000s are more of a mixed bag. I know the 1 Meg radios can probably be Flash Upgraded. Or do you think they would just buy new radios ? Cleveland has over 3000 Radios on the system. Thanks in advance for any input.

mixed bag.
M will most likely give them credit radio/radio on the tradeins... after which, they will be destroyed.
here's my guess:
trade in and destroyed: 90%
auctioned: 10%

Are they really using VSELP XTS3000s?

They have about 30-40 VSELP XTS 3000s. I figured MOTO would just take all the Astros and melt them down. I heard they do things like that. Maybe the city wont ask for mine back and i will be able to keep it.

Why not just upgrade the XTS3000's?

The XTS3000 radios could be upgraded to IMBE - if the application was to use them on Smartzone 3 or 4 - however - both of those platforms are dead-end. Motorola has NOTHING on its "road map" for legacy 3600 baud, analog or mixed-mode. Any new systems sold today will be Astro25.
Motorola did deliver a few XTS3000 radios flashed to work on Smartzone 5 and 6 systems with firmware versions in the 6.xx range but product development of that unit has ended so don't expect to be able to get flash upgrades to Smartzone 7 and beyond.
I doubt if they will even update the 6.xx firmware for rebanding.

I just received a web flyer stating that Circle-M will pay up to $60.00 for each radio traded in on new...
WOW!
Sixty bucks trade-in on a kilobuck portable/mobile only a couple of years from new....ASTOUNDING!
Hell, slap all those HT220s and MT500s in a box and ship 'em off!!
*That's what we have been using since 1980, we just now got funding to upgrade, so.....here ya' go*
