Hi everyone,

just wanted to know the approx range in miles or kilometres of a HT750 both line-of-sight range, approx range in a regular suburban neighborhood with single and double storey houses, and also approx range in the middle of the city with skyscrapers, etc all around. Motorola never seems to let you know. note that in all of the situations above, the terrain is flat, and clear weather, with some buildings etc, of course and occasionally some trees in the park. NO repeaters, just 2 HT750's talking back an forth. in all of the situations above it will be two of the exact same radios talking to each other (i.e. - 2x HT750)...i know its impossible to tell for sure and that it depends on the situation, but based on the variables above could anyone give an approx. guess?

it all depends. you'll get more range at midnight than you will at noon with less traffic in the air. it'll depend on how flat the land is, what the buildings are made of. you'll get twice the range if you are outside of a vehicle. the higher the antennae the better. what frequencies? low band is a 6 watt radio, vhf is a 5 watt radio, uhf is a 4 watt radio. what frequency is your license for? if you don't have one you are going to be limited to murs or gmrs and maybe only 2 watts. but if all conditions are normal and the radios are putting out full power, i'd say 3-4 miles if you are outside of a vehicle or building. and don't believe the crap you read about those talkabouts that can do 7 or 8 miles.

He's in Australia, so GMRS and MURS are out. He's using UHF HT750's on their CB frequencies.

With that, I'd say that if you got more than 2-3 miles you'd be doing EXTREMELY well. That 2-3 miles depends on whether you're inside/outside, etc. If you're in one of the skyscrapers on the top floor and the other person is 20 miles away, then it's possible depending on how high the skyscraper is.

On average, I'd say that you're probably going to average about 2 miles.
