Centracom Elite Beating Dead Horse

Im trying to upgrade the centracom software and hardware from old NT 4.0 boxes to new HP boxes with XP loaded on them. I am also updating the server to 2003 enterprise.

I was told that i can upgrade the old Centracom database to work on the new Centracom software\hardware. But it doesnt seem to work.

After loading the operating systems and loading the centracom software, i copied and pasted the old database into the folders in centracom and pointed the console machines to the folder on the server. When I try to load Centracom on the console it says "Database cannot opened : network communication failure. Elite will shut down."

Is this a database problem or a network problem? I followed the Moto-setup book to a "T"

Are all of your IP's configured correctly, and in the same setup as they were before you did the upgrades?

Yes they are all on the same subnet with the same gateway, dns, sub mask everything. Im technicaly not doing an upgrade, im setting up an entirely new system. It will be set up the same as the old system, but the computer hardware and centracom software will be newer versions. So basicaly, once i get the second system up and running, i can shut down the old equipment one at a time and replace it with the new equipment without losing availibility of the 911 system.

Any other suggestions about what this might be?

Thanks,
Chris

My best suggestion is to call Motorola. Centracom systems can be notoriously 'buggy' during set-up, and it's way better to deal with them (Motorola) as opposed to asking advice from a website...even one as technically adept as this one.

Was this co-ordinated through Motorola, as far as confirming the particular version of Centracom you're installing is compatible with Windows XP? I know for our system, the XP consoles must be running Service Pack 1a...any other will cause multiple issues.

I'm assuming the particular console you're trying to get up & running is connected to it's proper COIM card with upgraded firmware to handle interfacing with XP?

copy the database from the server and put it on the individual computers.
Change the centracom config ton the pc's to point to the files you saved.
that will check the local end.
To me it sounds like your configs are not pointing to the right paths.

Did you receive new Centracom Elite software? Some old versions would not run properly on XP.

We did an upgrade from Win2k to XP and server 2003.

Installed Server 2003. installed new Elite software on server (CDM/ADM/etc). Copied the old database onto server. Launched CDM and it converted database.

Installed new workstation software and pointed to server.

I think you are trying to run an old version on XP/Server 2003.

Damn I'm tired. After re-reading your comments I see you have a "new" version Elite software. As Todd pointed out, contact Moto and verify that version is certified for XP and Server 2003. Also he is correct in COIM firmware must be updated.

And as I previously mentioned, once you install the CDM software, copy in the old database and launch CDM to convert the database.

You can try copying the database from the server to the local OP to rule out a network issue.
