hey batboard,

Just bought my first jedi radio the other day, i want a speaker mic for it but i have heard that the ptt switch on the jedi mic's frequently break. i saw that you can buy a public safety mic for them that look like the old saber/astro saber mics (Model # NMN6228C), but i want a regular rsm, not a psm. does anyone know if there is a saber-style rsm out there that works with jedi radios? or will i have to fabricate one for myself? (i want my rsm to be exactly like the rsm with the model # NMN6128C)

thanks.

The part number you want is NMN6193C, but it is the more rounded shape than the Saber spkr mics. I'm not aware of any square spkr mics for the Jedi series other than in the public safety version.

The original design of the 6193's had a rubber boot over the PTT, and that was a common fail point. The current version has a plastic paddle which is much better. It is still a potential problem, as is any component the operator handles, but it is much more reliable than before. It pretty much comes down to how well you take care of your equipment. If you don't abuse it, the paddle will last as long as any other part. If you "crush-to-talk", you will likely put a lot of lateral stress on it and it will fail.
