Saber Option H906--Low Battery LED

I have been trying to activate Option H906--Low Battery LED on my Saber 2. I've never been able to get it to work. I believe it should make the red LED on top of the radio blink when the battery strength reaches a certain level. (I've disabled the LED blinking on TX.) The battery indicator still works of course on the LCD screen but it would be nice to have the red LED on top also give the warning. My battery is an NTN4596D (Ni-Cad), if that is relevant.. Anyone have experience with this?

You've missed the line in the setup list that controls at
what point the low battery LED comes on. Take a look
at the options list and you'll find it.

Don't see it Tom...It's not listed in the options that I see. Are you talking about alignment. Saw something there, it's set to 9E. The LCD display battery indicator flashes at a good point...that same threshold would be fine for me for the red LED.

The low battery LED indicator is actually for the non display models only.

As Tom stated, you can adjust the minimum battery level before the LCD icon flashes, but do NOT use the RSS default, it's much too high and you'll be charging your batteries when they do not need charging.

I set my low battery to '10' or less, as I really never look at the LCD, and once the battery is depleted enough, or low enough to require a recharge, the display will blink and the radio will no longer transmit.

I like to run my batteries down, not just to where the default thinks it's low, but to an actual no more transmission state, that way I know for certain that the battery is in need of a charge, and that I will also get maximum life from the battery as well.

All battery level adjustments and so on are in the alignment section.

So.....On a S2, which of course has a display, you cannot use the red LED on top of the radio as a battery low indicator even though the option is in the RSS after reading an S2?

Correct.

The low battery LED is 'overridden' by the addition of a display board so that option is of no use.

The low battery LED will also give a false indication as it may appear to be a received signal as well, as the LED blinks upon reception of an incoming signal and that can get confusing to the operator.

Not if you don't activate H359 "Channel Busy LED" which is not compatable with H906.

This is true, but 99% of the people do use the LED on receive, as an indication they are on an active channel if the RX audio is down, as in a restaurant or other public area.

They can simply look down, see the LED blink and then take the neccessary action..and do it quioetly as well.
