I know that this is possible. Can anyone help me out here? I have the case with the electronics, just need to enable it in software somehow. Thanks

All you need is the DTMF case and solder the header onto the lower section of the board, at the bottom.
Many times I have seen the leads soldered directly to the board, as well as a small header soldered to facilitate easy case removal as well.
Even if you have to solder the leads on, the task should take you no longer than an hour start to finish, then all you would need to do is enable the option in the RSS and away you go.
You might prefer to read the radio first, as it may report the DTMF addition so you wouldn't need to worry about the RSS option.

I haven't done this, but it seems possible that you need to change the model number of the radio so the RSS knows it should have this feature. I don't know what the new model number should be, however, nor do I have any clear idea how to change it.

From my recollection, DTMF is only a 16CH radio feature. So, follow the procedure on the Batlab Thread for changing it to a 16CH radio. Remember, most 2CH radios are forever 2CH radios.
The DTMF front cover has contacts on the bottom that mate up with the board. No soldering required. Just put the old guts in the new cover, tell it is now a 16CH radio, and select phone options in the software for each mode and its done.

I've never done a GP300 DTMF conversion but I can add these tidbits:
I looked in the GP300 catalog and there were DTMF retrofit kits available for all but 2 ch. models (8, 16 plus that odd 8+2 model). Being these were offered as after time of sale retrofits (or as factory options) there has to be a way to enable it without any bit banging.
I have a couple of GP300's that had been set up for DTMF-ANI signalling
so the likely place to look for keypad DTMF would be in the signalling menu (also where the MDC-1200 options would be located).
I did have a DTMF P110 apart (identical board and frame) and the shield had a cut out to access tabs on the main board so when the DTMF front was pressed on it would make contact.

Will try to make it a 16ch and see if the option pops up. Thanks

Use a GP300 5 tone
keypad board, the contacts are on the bottom of the main board
