I hit the key too fast. Locked the radio into 2k mode.

How can I get it back to 8k?

Have you tried creating a new codeplug that matches your model number and writing it to the radio?

yes.

It now complains because it pre-reads the radio, and says "you only have 2k radio, and you are trying to put in an 8k codeplug" and refuses to do it.

I also tried turning off the radio to corrupt the current radio code plug and push in the 8k and it still wont go. Tried to use both F6 and F2 (I think that one creates new tuning values).

I have the code plug from when I first got the radio, but it wouldnt work below 146 (even though the radio is programmed wideband 136-whatever) I think it has the upper split modules. Have not taken radio apart to verify, but I was attempting to put ONE frequency in the radio to test where the radio would PLL lock.
So bonehead me somehow created 2k codeplug to test with.
Now I can't get it out...

Older versions of Saber RSS (think R04) didn't know about 2K, and will go ahead and shove new data in. Use it to corrupt the codeplug, then use the latest stuff to dump the new plug in.

Been there, done that.

You will need to do a complete realignment on the radio once the process is complete.

Another thing i have done is to take and write the 2k codeplug to the radio, as it starts to program and you get the first couple dots on the screen then turn off the radio and get through all the complaints and back to the program menu. Then load your 8k codeplug and turn the radio back on, you will get an error because the radio is now corrupt, write the 8k codeplug to the radio to restore it.

This also works on radios that have 8k fronts but the delete memory option was turned on to make it a 2k.

I turned the radio off when it was writing the 2k code plug (see above... ) but I turned it off when it was 1/3 the way across the 1st line of dots.

I'll retry on the 1st or 2nd dot and post back the results.

In theory disrupting it at any time while it's writing should screw it up enough to cause a codeplug error.

I just use that as an example rather than waiting longer.

OK, it's back to the original codeplug.

The trick of blasting in a new codeplug with V4 worked.

I re-read the original codeplug with 7.0.1 and it went back in.

Just don't forget to re-align the radio now that you have gotton rid of the 2k problem. Whenever you want to edit the codeplug just remember to write the codeplug to the radio using the Radio Values. NOT THE CODEPLUG VALUES. If you select the codeplug value option, you will have to re-align the radio all over again.

I dont think I ever got the chance to mess up the radio values, even with all the baloney I had to go through.

I found a link to the "theory/Maintenance" manual, not sure if it has a tune up procedure.

I have service monitor, I guess it could do with a go thru. Has is been described anywhere on any forum, the procedure to follow?
